170 Years of Heritage Goes Digital

The Royal Ulster Agricultural Society (RUAS) is excited to announce the launch of its new website as the charity celebrates 170 years of support for the local agricultural industry – www.ruas.org.uk 

As organisers of the beloved Balmoral Show, Royal Ulster Premier Beef & Lamb Championships and Royal Ulster Winter Fair, the RUAS will use this online platform as a new avenue for cultivating the agri-food landscape in Northern Ireland by adapting and evolving to reach local consumers.

The informative and user-friendly site is designed to help visitors gain a fresh perspective on the Society’s longstanding history and explore its’ heritage through milestone events and archive photographs.

Viewers can now trace the Society’s origins back to 1854 and explore historic highlights to include its purchase of the King’s Hall in 1894, the launch of the first Winter Fair in 1986 and the construction of the Eikon Exhibition Centre in 2015.

Theresa Morrissey, Group Executive Director of the RUAS commented, ‘We are thrilled to be able to bring the Society’s heritage into an online format for the wider agricultural community to enjoy. This website is part of a larger strategic vision which will see the Society assess how we can best support the local agri-food sector and further educate consumers on the field to fork journey. An excellent step towards achieving our charitable objectives we hope users find this interactive platform both insightful and for many, a pleasant trip down memory lane.’
